These cockatoos exist in small regions of Australia, some rarer Glossy Blacks on Kangaroo Island, my first home. I have drawn them in the She-Oaks which grow in forest stands, sometimes close to the shoreline. I consider European settlement and have drawn fragments of sea charts and plant lists. In the lower section, the birds fly with images of the endemic plants on their feathers, a ‘biological memory’ for each bird, of their particular landscape.
