In the winter of 1836, three Pyemmairrener women, taken 16 years earlier from Van Diemen’s Land, saw a ship approaching westwards to the Island. Carrying fresh food for the weary travelers, they set off with their children and dogs to walk from Antechamber bay to Western Cove. My etching is to celebrate and honour their great courage and generosity.
